About

I've been taking photographs for years. But I've never really exhibited any of them, except maybe occasionally on Facebook.
Maybe because I always saw that I could improve the photos. Or maybe because I thought that I should build up a more coherent collection of work. Or maybe because I was too scared or lazy or precious.

I never really owned the cameras I felt I wanted to shoot with. I have a Nikon D90, which is a great DSLR for stills. However, I have only one lens - a 70-300mm zoom, which I bought for £20. Cheap because it has loads of fungus inside the front element. I also have an iPhone, which allows me to shoot quickly wherever I am, and edit (retouch, grade etc.) using an array of apps - mostly the free ones. I now have a Diana Mini Lomo camera, which allows me to take 72 half frame shots on one roll of standard 35mm film. A bit like an old Olympus Pen-F. A return to shooting film - great! I sometimes borrow a friend's Canon 7D. I sometimes shoot on disposable film cameras. Sometimes Super 8 movie cameras. I sometimes use cheap softlights. Sometimes not. Sometimes I use the on board flash on my camera.
The point I guess is that at the moment I will shoot with whatever is available to me. And I'll present it here - the stuff I think has some merit. Whether you or anyone else thinks the same is a matter of personal taste. But of course that's the case with any photograph, and artwork, anything, using cheap or expensive equipment.
In the near future I hope to obtain a camera/related equipment I believe will allow me to take the photographs I want in the way I want - but it may not make for better pictures. Who knows.

So now, here, on this blog, I will present a selection of photographs I have taken using whatever equipment I have at hand. Hopefully it will show my interests, influences, and some degree of skill.

As a heads up, I really enjoy shooting fashion-y stuff. People. Architecture. Skies. Odd collections of things. Abstract shapes/colours. My dog is guaranteed to feature - it never shies away from the camera. And I sometimes shoot products - for my girlfriend's blog, commissions from clients, in order to learn more, as a way to build a portfolio of work which may get me paid work in this field.

I hope you enjoy looking at my shots. I hope you find something interesting about them. I'd love it if you'd comment, good or bad, on them. I'd love to see your shots. Or any other work you think I might find interesting. I also make films (corporate paid stuff and personal, odd stuff), music (on my own and with various friends, and run a couple of little lofi 'community' projects).
